Colors

What we read:

Not Quite Black And White by Jonathan Ying

  • The kids really liked this one. It was just silly enough with a lot of fun animals.

Monsters Love Colors by Mike Austin

  • I love this book and read it probably more than I should. But it’s fun and filled with monsters and colors!

Carrot and Pea by Morag Hood

  • I have been waiting to read Carrot and Pea since we got it in, and thought why not use it for a colors theme since the basis of the book is two contrasting colors.

Themed song:

Color song. This is a song I use a lot. I use this if folks come in early, we’re waiting to start, and little ones and have a lot of wiggles. Kids love to show you what they’re wearing!

Red, red is the color I see
If you’re wearing red, then show it to me!
Stand up, take a bow, turn around
Then sit back down on the ground!
Repeat with other colors

Flannel Board:

Mary Had a Little Lamb

6 Colorful Sheep

You sing Marry had a little lamb with fleece as ___ as ___.

Switch out the colors and then you name something with that color with the help of the kids. As green as a lizard! As pink as cotton candy! As blue as the sky! It’s really fun! As always, you count the sheep and name the colors when you start!
